The Globe to Globe festival at Shakespeare’s Globe is in full swing, and following the great success of Measure for Measure in Russian by Vakhtangov Theatre, we are delighted to welcome this week to the stage the Armenian Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theatre performing King John and Belarus Free Theatre performing King Lear.

PUTIN’S KISS is a rare insight into the core of Russian democracy ‘Putin-style’. We meet Masha, 19, who has become a spokesperson for Nashi, a political youth organization working to support the current political system.
Their agenda, however, is also to keep the political opposition from spreading their views among the Russians. When Masha is up for election, she starts questioning her role in the Nashi movement for the first time.

Acclaimed violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen leads the Honeymead Ensemble in a stunning performance of two of the great Russian string quartets. Arensky’s ‘Cello’ Quartet No. 2 in A minor, written in memory of Tchaikovsky and deeply rooted in Russian folk, alongside Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No. 3 in E-Flat minor, symphonic in scope, and filled with moments of intense grief and longing, this work is considered the great Russian Romantic quartet.
