BIOGRPAHIES

Anna Gorbachyova, soprano, studies with Rosa Mannion on the Masters Programme at the Royal College of Music. In December 2009 Anna was awarded a place and a full scholarship at the Royal Academy Opera .

Anna was born on the 23rd of May 1985 in the Siberian city Shushenskoye in Russia.

In 2006 she graduated from the Ural State University named after A.M.Gorkiy (Yekaterinburg, Russia) with a Bachelors of International Relations. At the same time she studied at the Music College named after P.I. Tchaikovsky (Yekaterinburg).

In summer 2007 Anna took part at the 17th International Opera Singing Competition Rocca delle Macìe in Siena (Italy) and made it to the final, becoming a diploma winner. She also participated in the Master class with the Maestro Renato Bruson, who was the President of the Jury of the competition.

In September 2007 Anna joined at the Royal College of Music in London on the Graduate Diploma course (voice teacher- Amanda Roocroft).

In November 2007 Anna won the First Prize at the 42nd International Antonín Dvořák Vocal Competition and sang in the final with the Symphony Orchestra of Karlovy Vari. She was also awarded two Special Prizes.

Studying at the RCM, Anna Gorbachyova has performed with the RCM Baroque Orchestra. She has also been a regular guest performer at the Handel House Museum and Pushkin House in London.

In July 2008 Anna successfully auditioned in Villecroze and was invited to participate in a voice Baroque Master class with the conductor Christophe Rousset at the Académie musicale de Villecroze from 1st-10th of October 2008.

During her studies at the RCM Anna has taken part in the following opera scenes: “Hansel&Gretel” (Gretel), “Orfeo ed Euridice” ( Euridice), “Cosi fan tutte” ( Fiordiligi), “Romeo et Juliette” by Gounod (Juliette), L’Egisto (Fedra), Orlando (Angelica), “Don Giovanni” (Zerlina), “Le Nozze di Figaro” (Susanna).

In March 2009 Anna performed “Ein Deutches Requiem” by Brahms with the Ealing Symphony Orchestra; in July 2009 Anna sang soprano-solo in the requiem “Eternal Light” by Howard Goodall, in October 2009 she performed Cantata N59 by Bach and Mass “Maria Theresa” by Haydn as well as scenes from “La Boheme” by Puccini and “L’Elisir d’Amore” by Donizetti; all conducted by John Gibbons.

In April 2009 Anna won the 3rd Prize at the International Singing Competition Ferruccio Tagliavini Deutchlandsberg in Austria.

In May 2009 Anna won the Special Prize for the Best Foreign Participant at the Giuseppe Di Stefano International Opera Singing Competition “I Giovani e l’Opera”.

In September 2009 Anna has attended the Master Class with Ernesto Palacio and for the second time sang in the Master Class with Renato Bruson.

In January 2010 she was granted the Honorable-Mention Award at the 61st Competition for Young Opera Singers of Europe in Como, Italy (January, 2010).

Her future engagements include concert performances of “A Sea Symphony” by Williams, “Idyll” by Delius, “Poeme de L’Amour et de la Mer” by Chausson, “Petite Messe Solonelle” by Rossini, Cantatas No 52, No 206 by Bach, “Te Deum” by Dvořák, “The Dream of the Rood” by Ferguson, “Les Illuminations” by Britten, “La Dame de Monte Carlo” by Poulenc, Mozart’s concert arias K. 383, K. 538.


JULIAN GALLANT read music at St Anne’s College 1984-1987, then pursued his studies as a pianist in Switzerland. Since his piano début recital at St John’s Smith Square in 1992 he has performed all over the world as a soloist and with ensembles including the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Orquestra Sinfonica Brasiliera, Kiev Chamber Orchestra and Moscow Virtuosi. His recordings include Piano Concertos of Our Time and a disc of French music for two pianos. Julian Gallant has played for many distinguished singers and instrumentalists including sopranos Valeria Stenkina and Tatiana Pavlovskaya, the world-renowned baritone Sergei Leiferkus and violinist Grigori Zhislin.
Chief Conductor of the Russian Orchestra of London, Julian has also guest-conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London and on tour. He has worked with orchestras in the Russian cities of Togliatti, Voronezh, Omsk, Ufa, Yaroslavl and Samara, the State Symphony Orchestra of Macedonia, the Armenian Philharmonic the Georgian State Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Julian Gallant has conducted at Helikon Opera in Moscow, the Kazakhstan State Opera and the Tbilisi State Opera. He conducted the Novaya Rossia orchestra in March 2010 in a programme of music by Britten, Elgar and Walton.

Julian Gallant has recorded music for Radio-Télévision Suisse-romande and has prepared and presented documentary programmes about Mozart, Schumann and Shostakovich “Performance” TV Channel. Julian Gallant is Director of Pushkin House, a centre of Russian culture in central London.
