AN EVENING WITH JULIA LEZHNEVA: PUSHKIN HOUSE FUNDRAISING CONCERT AT ST JAMES PICCADILLY

An exclusive opportunity to hear the internationally acclaimed young soprano Julia Lezhneva give her debut solo recital in London, at St James Piccadilly. She will sing a programme of baroque arias from her new CD Alleluia, to be released by Decca, as well as music by Rossini, Schubert and Rachmaninov, and will be accompanied by the pianist and organist Michael Antonenko.

Proceeds from the concert will enable Pushkin House to continue to fund performances by exceptional Russian creative talent in London and to maintain and improve our beautiful premises. As an independent charity Pushkin House receives no government grant and relies on the financial support of individual donors and corporate sponsors.

Following the concert, there will be a private reception at the Erarta Gallery nearby on Berkeley Street at which donors, sponsors and patrons of Pushkin House will have the opportunity to meet Ms Lezhneva and her partner and accompanist Mikhail Antonenko, and view the gallery’s exhibition, David Plaksin’s Structure . The concert promises to be a highlight in Pushkin House’s exciting 2013 programme.

Born in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and trained in Moscow, Cardiff and London, Julia caused a sensation when she sang at the 2010 Classical Brit Awards at the Royal Albert Hall. ‘A new star is born’ wrote Die Welt . She is praised for her ‘voice of angelic beauty’ (New York Times) , ‘pure tone’ ( Opernwelt ) and ‘flawless technique’ ( Guardian) . “From time to time a really outstanding talent appears and I believe that Julia Lezhneva is just that’, said Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
