Terry Barfoot will explore Mahler’s relationship with Russia through various strands:
• Mahler’s three visits to Russia, which included his honeymoon in 1902
• Mahler’s relationship with Russian composers, including for example Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Shostakovich
• performances of Mahler’s music by Russian musicians.
The talk will be fully illustrated with musical and visual examples.
Terry Barfoot has for many years given presentations at music clubs and festivals throughout the country. He has lectured at Oxford University, the British Library, Opera Holland Park, the Royal Opera House and the Three Choirs Festival. With his own company, Arts in Residence, Terry promotes musical events at agreeable locations throughout Britain and in Europe, and recently led visits to Leipzig, Vienna, Amsterdam and Berlin.
