Russian Avant-garde in Architecture: beginnings and endings.

Lecture by Richard Pare

Richard Pare is an internationally renowned British photographer, who has been researching Russia architecture for the last twenty years.

His work is shown alongside the work of photographer Dmitry Konradt in the Abstraction/Constructivism exhibition at Pushkin House on show from 3 June. Richard will speak about the fate of the avant-garde in Russian architecture, and the predicaments of Russian constructivist architectsafter 1932.

There are devastating ironies in histories of Russian architects. One of the greatest masters of constructivism 1920's Moisey Ginzburg was claimed as a symbol of the extinction of forward progress in 1930's. It is a bitter tale but bears rehearsing.
