Programme

Keith Burstein Songs of Love and Solitude

Programme to include music by Faure and Respighi

Rita Novikaite and Julian Gallant premiere Keith Burstein’s new song cycle Songs of Love and Solitude.

Later in November Rita Novikaite will record the Songs in an orchestral version with the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra conducted by Keith Burstein in Lithuania. Keith Burstein will also record his Symphony ‘Elixir’, for release by Naxos Records.

The recording of the songs and symphony has been instigated by the great conductor and pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy, who is a mentor of Keith Burstein and supporter of his music.

Acclaimed Lithuanian mezzo soprano Rita Novikaite has been another driving force behind the project, and is a passionate advocate of the composer’s work, inspiring the composer to create this song cycle for her.

Burstein has been described by music critic David Sonin as “a contemporary master of tonality”. The composer’s family originated from Russia and Lithuania, which partly explains the soulful lyricism of his music.
