Evening concert “The Dimensions of Russian Song”

The award winning Brighton & Hove Russian Choir promotes Russian harmony singing and traditional Russian repertoire. This evening's concert will include a wide range of Russian vocal music: lyrical songs, ritual music for pagan holidays, wedding and dance folk songs arranged for choir, classical pieces by Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Sviridov and others, Russian Orthodox Church music as well as choral arrangements of Silver Age poetry.

Фольклорная студия ИЗБА появилась в начале 2015 года, в нее вошли поклонники и регулярные гости клуба ИЗБА, которым хотелось поближе познакомиться с певческими традициями и попробовать петь фольклор. Под руководством Полины Пруцковой участницы готовили тематические программы на Масленицу, Пасху и Троицу и участвовали в праздниках клуба ИЗБА в Пушкинском Доме.
Polina Proutskova has been researching and singing Russian and other musical traditions for over 15 years, conducting field research in various regions of Russia. Her Berlin-based vocal ensemble Polynushka won the most prestigious musical award in German-speaking countries and initiated a Russian folklore subculture in Berlin. Now in London as a vocal coach and a PhD candidate at Goldsmiths, Polina continues to advocate for less well-known aspects of Russian musical culture.
Polina Shepherd is a performer, composer, singer, pianist, band and choir leader. Born in Siberia and raised in Tatarstan, she grew up in a home where there was always singing. Since moving to the UK, she teaches workshops internationally. In the UK, she has taught for Glyndebourne Education and the Natural Voice Practitioners Network and is now leads three choirs. www.polinashepherd.co.uk
During the concert (and during the adults' vocal workshops in the afternoon), early years specialists 'Mama i Malysh' will provide a creche with plenty of exciting activities for small children.
