Mame-loshn and Mother Tongue: An evening of Yiddish and Russian Songs with Yuri Vedenyapin

A perfect way to round off the week - join us for a drink and a performance by  Yuri Vedenyapin.

For this concert, given in a rare visit to the UK, Vedenyapin will perform witty, melodious and playful renditions of well known and lesser known Russian and yiddish songs. 
Vedenyapin is a master of word play and a celebrated performer. 

Yuri Vedenyapin was born in Moscow and received his A.B. from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in Yiddish studies from Columbia University. He teaches all Yiddish language courses at Harvard and has also taught at a wide variety of other institutions in USA, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, and Poland. His interests are wide-ranging and include modern Yiddish literature, East European Jewish folklore, Yiddish theater and film, oral history and Yiddish dialects. He studied acting at the Shchepkin Acting School in Moscow and is an active performer of Yiddish and Russian songs, including original compositions and translations.
