Find out about the creative processes of From the Lips to the Moon and join Tara Fatehi and Pouya Ehsaei in exercises that allow you to experience their methodologies.
Aimed at those interested in practicing music and poetry, this workshop is a chance to think about how words and writing interact with music and listening. How can we be attentive to our environment, feelings, and the people and places around us?
Interested in inclusive and interdisciplinary creative practices, Tara and Pouya work with the layering and interruptions of different artistic practices. They create atmospheres that are conscious of and reflect on the political darkness and global violence we live in while practicing forms of hosting that allow for community building.
Whether you’re a musician and interested in improvising alongside other musicians and poetry, or you enjoy writing poetry, spoken word, or any undefinable form of text, this will be a space for you to experiment with music, listening and writing in a safe and non-judgmental space, and discuss the interactions of these forms and the spaces they create.
** If you play a musical instrument – no matter the shape, form and size, and your level of expertise – bring it with you. There’s a piano in the room if you need.
** If you’re interested in writing and voicing your writing, bring yourself and your favourite writing tools – you don’t need professional writing experience.
From the Lips to the Moon is an electrifying long-form improvisation of music and poetry created by voice-shifting writer-performer Tara Fatehi and live-electronic music wizard Pouya Ehsaei. Each From the Lips to the Moon performance is a unique experience with a fresh line-up of invited guests. Since 2022, they have had performances at the V&A, Southbank Centre, The Vinyl Factory, Reference Point, Mosaic Rooms and internationally, and have worked with over 95 guest artists. Their first book of poetry, music, runaway words, and echoes is called In times of darkness and is available from the Pushkin House bookshop. Their debut album is coming out in 2025. www.lipstomoon.com @lipstomoon
