Description

Please note that this event is not suitable for our English-speaking only audiences, as no translation from Russian will be provided on this occasion. As part of our efforts to cater for our varied audiences and bring in a diversity of voices, some of our events now take an intimate chamber format and are conducted in Russian only.

Libris with Liberov is a series of intimate, thought-provoking talks where literature becomes a living conversation. Guided by Roma Liberov’s personal choices and passions, each evening opens a new door into the world of Russian authors.

Liberov is inspired by the practice of attentive and in-depth reading of a single poetic text, when an entire study grows out of an attempt to examine one work as closely as possible. Continuing in this vein, he invites audiences to a poetry evening dedicated to a detailed discussion of just one poem by Vladislav Khodasevich one of the most refined voices of Russian modernist poetry and a key figure of the émigré literary tradition.

This conversation is not a philological study, but an opportunity to recall Vladislav Khodasevich's first years as an emigrant, the drama he endured, and compare them with what some of us are experiencing now. Focussing on a single text allows for a slower, more attentive reading  one that opens space for shared reflection, personal associations, and collective interpretation.
